Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
1. Who we are
IrishPAYE.ie is a free Irish PAYE calculator, operated from Ireland, and is the data controller for the information described in this notice. For privacy-related queries, contact: contact@irishpaye.ie.
2. What data we collect
We do not collect or store any personal financial data you enter into the calculator by default. All calculations are performed in real time and discarded immediately, nothing is saved to a database or server, with two exceptions, both of which you have to opt into: if you contribute to our anonymous salary benchmark, your job title and salary are stored with no name, company or other identifying information attached; and if you ask for the Budget update email, your address is stored. Both are covered below.
The following data may be collected automatically when you visit this site:
- IP address (anonymised — used only to block abuse and for security, not stored long-term)
- Browser type, device type, and operating system (via Google Analytics)
- Pages visited and time spent on site (via Google Analytics)
- Approximate geographic location at country/region level (via Google Analytics)
- Ad interaction data (via Google AdSense, if you have consented)
- Content-engagement and social-share interaction data (via Grow by Mediavine, if you have consented)
- Job title and salary, only if you choose to contribute to the salary benchmark (opt-in, anonymous, no name or company attached)
- Email address, only if you ask for the Budget update email (opt-in, double confirmed, nothing else stored with it)
3. Cookies
We use the following categories of cookies:
Strictly necessary
CSRF token — required for secure form submissions. No personal data. Cannot be opted out of.
Analytics (requires consent)
Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*) — used to understand how visitors use the site. Anonymised. Controlled by Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertising (requires consent)
Google AdSense — used to serve relevant advertisements. Controlled by Google's privacy policy. If you reject cookies, you may still see ads but they will not be personalised.
Engagement (requires consent)
Grow by Mediavine (faves): a social-share and content-recommendation widget. Loaded only once you accept cookies. Controlled by Grow's privacy policy at grow.me/publishers/privacy.
Preference (functional)
irishpaye_consent — stores your cookie consent choice in your browser's local storage. Not a cookie; not sent to any server.
3a. Budget update emails
If you ask to be told how the Budget changes your take-home pay, we store your email address and nothing else. Not your name, not your salary, and none of the figures you entered into the calculator. Giving your address is entirely optional and no part of the site requires it.
We use double opt-in: after you sign up we email you a link, and your address is only added to the list once you click it. Alongside the address we record the date you signed up and the exact wording of the consent you agreed to, so that we can show what you consented to if you ever ask.
- What we send: one email a year, on Budget day, showing what changed and what it does to take-home pay. Nothing else, and nothing between Budgets.
- Lawful basis: your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.
- Sharing: your address is never sold, shared or used for advertising. It is passed only to the email provider that delivers the message.
- Withdrawing consent: every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately and needs no login. You can also email contact@irishpaye.ie.
- Retention: we keep your address for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe we retain the address in a suppressed state, so that it cannot be added again by mistake, unless you ask us to erase it outright.
- Erasure: email contact@irishpaye.ie and the record is deleted entirely.
4. Legal basis for processing
- Consent — analytics and advertising cookies are only activated after you accept via the cookie banner.
- Consent — Budget update emails, if you have opted in and confirmed your address. Withdrawable in one click at any time.
- Legitimate interest — limiting repeated requests and security logging (anonymised IP hashing) to protect the service from abuse.
5. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services, each subject to their own privacy policies:
- Google Analytics 4 — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdSense — policies.google.com/privacy
- Grow by Mediavine: grow.me/publishers/privacy
- Render.com (hosting) — render.com/privacy
- Resend (delivers the Budget update emails, and is the only one of these that handles your email address) — resend.com/legal/privacy-policy
Resend keeps a delivery log of messages we send, which includes the recipient address, for its own operational and anti-abuse purposes. If you ask us to erase your data we remove you from our list; ask us and we will also request removal from that log.
We use Google Consent Mode v2. If you reject cookies, Google Analytics and AdSense operate in a privacy-preserving mode with no personal data collection.
6. Your rights under GDPR
As a person in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Withdraw consent at any time (use the cookie banner — reload the page to change your choice)
- Lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie
To exercise any right, contact: contact@irishpaye.ie.
7. Data retention
We do not retain any calculator input data, with one exception: salary benchmark contributions (job title and salary, submitted voluntarily) are retained indefinitely and used in aggregate to build ongoing salary insights. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months (Google's minimum). Anonymised rate-limit logs are held in memory only and cleared on server restart.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated.
